Aborted – Gloom and the Art of Tribulation | EP Review

Aborted the long standing Belgian Brutal Death Metal band are well accomplished for utter Brutality, great stop and start riffs and lots of energy. They’re also known to be quite tongue in cheek. It’s a great blend. Their little EP, Gloom and the Art of Tribulation, is only a three track piece; coming after 2018’s TerrorVision. The title track earns the release. Such energy and power in one little track. Aborted are great at giving deep grunts, amazing snarls and powerfully energetic and punishing instrumentation. Constant and in powerful stop start bursts. ‘Gloom and the Art of Tribulation’ is exactly that. A fine piece of Aborted. It’s sad to say that despite the grand majesty of the first track, the title track. The EP wains quickly into more of the same. It’s well polished and with a power that can deliver on repeat listens but it certainly doesn’t grab as powerfully. But it would be a disservice not to note the guitar solo in ‘Funereal Malediction’. Slow harmonies built into the otherwise standard Brutal Aborted track, it gives a last scream to the EP. By no means a misfire, just more of the same. This EP has three solid tracks of Death Metal and though they may become better with time, it is really ‘Gloom and the Art of Tribulation’ that is the powerhouse here. This one track is the soul reason to look into this EP. Quick to become a regular stay of many of Aborted’s popular tracks.
