Many bands hold the weight of experience into each and every song. Therefore it surprises when you learn of their relatively little output. Connecticuts Archaic Decapitator are one such band. This Death Metal five piece are bringing out their second EP since their debut album, The Apothecary April 19th.

Instantly theres a striving ferocity to their music. Death Metal sounding so alive and feral, imbued with a melodic overtone that make sense of th...

Dimlight’s latest release A Symphony of Horrors forms the final entry in the triple album bundle Kingdom of Horrors, following the albums Kingdom of Horrors and Realm of Tragedy (both of which were released October 2018). Kingdom of Horrors was an album in Dimlight’s usual style of Gothic Symphonic Death Metal featuring deep guttural growls (Peter Invoker) alongside powerful female vocals (Mora Hecate), and Realm of Tragedy was a more contemplati...

Some Blackened Death Metal is Death Metal with more Satanic themes, some is Black Metal with hard hitting and sometimes down tuned guitars. In a genre with already blurred lines, Blackened Death Metal sits at that blurred point. It's always darker than Death, stronger than the haunting atmospheres of Black Metal. Master's Call are another Brummy born up-and-comer. Their debut EP Morbid Black Trinity is approaching us soon – January 25th.

2018 has felt a little like a game changer. Like something is building and amounting to something. There has been a lot of good music coming out and it feels like a lot better music to come as well. Bands are developing and thriving in a way that can get you excited for music and Metal once again. It's been quite hard to get this list down to 10 but here are my personal picks for the top albums of the year!

Sounding a lot like Cryptopsy’s deeper brother, Death Metal’s self-proclaimed inventors of Slam, Internal Bleeding are back with their sixth album Corrupting Influence. Having been around since the early 90s has certainly strengthened their weight in Meaty and Brutal songs. The groovier elements of their music add moments of Aborted and Benighted for good measure making for a formidable Death Metal music ethos.

Thick bassy riffs and fast onslaught...

Aborted are back! Their music being a powerful part of modern extreme measures of music. Paving the way for a lot of brutality in Death Metal and Death Grind, the band’s signature style isn’t lost on this new album, TerrorVision, which takes its name from a horror-comedy cult classic film from 1986. But despite being part of the bands gore and sense of humour the underlying message isn’t just fun: “a lot of things that have been happening in the...

Newcastle’s Technical Death Metal experimenters Plague Rider are back with a new EP. The first since 2015. Their Death Metal is lathed in (un)healthy doses of exploration in darkness, aggression and speed. Yet, they come strikingly close to Cryptopsy. Rhizome marks a step up with new depths of raw sounding violence.

Dynamic riffs and powerful and full sounding drums lead a base sound for Plague Rider. Their proficiency a near surprise for the song...

With some industrial elements, Stillbirth are a Death Metal/Grindcore band from Germany. Annihilation of Mankind marks their fifth studio album since 2015’s Global Error. Despite the raw aggression that tends to accompany many Grindcore acts, and the short song structures that accompany their absolute burst of balls-to-the-wall power; this isn’t the end all formula for these bands. The precision and technical proficiency can take some bands from...
