Friday drew to a close (some would say mercifully, given the conditions) with The Front Bottoms packing out the second stage late on for a set dedicated to their much-loved Talon Of The Hawk album. From the off, the crowd put all exhaustion aside and sang along like their lives depended on it. As headline sets go, it’s up there, and while it may not be an album as big as Crisis, it’s a classic to the people singing their hearts out. Once the album set is done with, they launch into a set comprising tracks from their extensive discography. ‘Summer Shandy’, ‘Maps’ and the set closer ‘Be Nice To Me’ all land perfectly, and it closes the book on a Friday that, despite all of the odds, leaves fans sweaty, exhausted but, most of all, happy. Not many bands could pull out a 21-song set on the hottest day of the year and retain rapturous attention throughout, but The Front Bottoms are clearly a different breed. CE.
