An Interview with Weirds

We managed to speak to the dudes in Weirds and talk the band's present and future as well as getting an idea on what bands they are listening to at the moment! Full interview below:

Noizze: Hi, how are you? Weirds: Hey! Yeah we're great, how're you? Noizze: Good thank you! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. So what led to calling yourselves Weirds? Weirds: I don't think we can quite pinpoint the exact moment we decided on it. We were only about 18, so i'm glad we chose Weirds!

Noizze: So you are a psychedelic grunge band, what led to making music in this vein?

Weirds: It's a term thats being thrown about yeah but it's always hard to define your own band's genre. We'd been written together for years and naturally, we started listening to different music and it obviously influenced us each in our way. It wasn't as if we decided one day; let's write like this. Like loads of bands, it just happened.

Noizze: How did you go about writing and recording the debut?

Weirds: It was something we just felt we needed to do, we needed to give ourselves that step up, both musically and everything that came with it. We moved into a house together for that sole reason and it was definitely the best thing we could have done. There was a lot of late nights in the basement and a fair amount of wine. We wanted it to be honest and to do that, you definitely need to push yourself in every way and hopefully that will get across to people.

Noizze: And how would you rate the music scene in Leeds?

Weirds: It's one of the reasons we chose to move up here. There is so many great venues; Brudenell Social Club, Belgrave, Headrow House, Wharf Chambers, CHUNK, to name a few, there is pretty much something for everyone on a nightly basis, obviously comes with that comes great bands. That was exciting to us and was something we wanted to be a part of. Noizze: Are there any other up and coming talents we should be excited about?

Weirds: In Leeds, Team Picture are a band that we're really into at the moment. Vulgarians from Hull are also something to get excited about, we've played loads of shows with those guys and we've become really good friends.

Noizze: And what are you guys listening to at the moment?

Weirds: Everyone obviously has their own taste. I seem to be hearing a lot of Electric Wizard and a lot of Krautrock through the walls in the house, it's a good mix. Our neighbours probably don't think so.

Noizze: Finally what does the rest of the year hold for Weirds?

Weirds: We've got loads coming up, we just plan to keep going and play as many shows to as many people as possible. Our debut album Swarmculture is out 12th May on Alcopop! Records, it'll have been over a year since we recorded it so we can't wait to get it out and for people to have the chance to listen to it.
