Download 2017: Five things for your To Do list!

In just under a month we’re welcoming festival season with open arms and what a better way to kick start than with Download? Here are a few things to look forward to during your weekend of mayhem!

Biffy Clyro's first headline slot at Download

Biffy Clyro are making their well overdue return to Donnington this year since subbing the legendary Metallica back in 2012. Much to the disdain of a rather large number of festival goers, the Scottish trio will be taking on the pressure of the Saturday headline slot and hopefully taking the show with an arsenal of festival headline slots under their belts and incredible stage show. If their headline slot at Reading Festival last year is anything to go by, we’re definitely in for a treat. Following their most recent release, Ellipsis in 2016 we can expect a diverse range of tracks from their latest album and greatest hits. Maybe, to fit the theme of Download, we can expect a heavier influence on their setlist to steal crowds of the weekend. Either way Neil and co are definitely ones to watch on the roster this year!

The last Dillinger Escape Plan UK appearance

As of the Sunday, New Jersey lads Dillinger Escape Plan will be ending their 20 year reign over prog/math/punk rock. They’re returning to Donington for the fifth and final time for their very last UK appearance at the festival. We can only hope that the five piece make it one to remember, from looking at their track record of crazy happenings I think we might just be in luck. From getting banned from Reading and Leeds festival back in 02 for defecating onstage to in-house riots at a venue in West Hollywood we can expect some mayhem to be caused. So pull out all the stops and get your crowd surf on to make this a definite show to remember. They will be headlining the Avalanche stage for their final goodbyes.

The last Aerosmith UK appearance

Rock n roll veterans Aerosmith are set to come back with all guns blazing to close the festival this year. Their Sunday headline slot is in favour to steal the weekend for all classic rock fans, young and old, and set to pack out main stage. With Download being smack bang in the middle of their farewell tour, this will be the last time we will be seeing Steven Tyler in all his glory here in the UK. With a legacy like this, we don’t wanna miss a thiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

Wrestling, lots and lots of wrestling!

For the last few years Download has been weaving its relationship with wrestling hoping for it to bloom into something incredible. Well for all you wrestling fans, it has. From days dedicated to becoming a fancy dress version of your favourite wrestler to standing in a tent at the front of black camp drunkenly shouting along to ‘Whom the Bell Tolls’ and cheering on a guy who resembles Jesus in budgie smugglers wrestling a lad in fishnet stockings, a loin cloth and corpse paint, it’s a good laugh. They’ve come a long way, last year NXT made their first appearance at Download with in a tent just off mainstage equipped with a ring to hold WWE stars such as Finn Balor, Bobby Roode, Bayley and Alexa Bliss along large screen to show their NXT takeover. Luckily it makes a comeback this year to do the exact same thing, but hopefully in drier conditions! This year we’ll be in the presence of current NXT champion Bobby Roode, women’s champion Asuka along with Aleister Black and Tye Dillinger!

The Dog House

As always, the Dog House will be taking the village by the horns. Bringing the party to the Wednesday and Thursday night with their club night of alternative tunes from pop punk, metal, punk and even the odd cheeky belter from the charts or 90’s. They’re going to be keeping the vibe alive til 3am if you don’t wanna stop partying after the 11pm curfew of the arena. So drop by with a drink and throw down some shapes with a handful of your mates and fellow Downloaders, get ready to rock!
