Download Festival Preview: An interview with Chris from Blood Youth.

May 22, 2017

With Download Festival imminently approaching, it is that time of year to get stoked, begin festival checklists and start considering who you will be checking out over the weekend. One band you need to add to your list is Blood Youth. 2017 sees the guys playing for their second time at Download, but this time on the Avalanche Stage which is headlined by none other than The Dillinger Escape Plan. We caught up with guitarist Chris Pritchard (@chrisxciv) to get the low-down on their upcoming set.

Hey Chris, how does it feel returning to Download Festival 2017 after playing back in 2015?
It feels amazing. Download is such a monumental festival which I look up to hugely and attended religiously as a young kid, so returning on a larger stage this year feels unreal to me.

You’re returning this year with your awesome debut album ‘Beyond Repair’ released, will fans be able to hear a lot of this played at Download?
For sure, festival sets are kind of strange because you have between like 30-50 minutes to cover as much ground as possible to please as many people as possible. But you can definitely expect to hear a handful of new songs in the set.

You’re on the Avalanche stage this year, with the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Basement and Touché Amoré. How does it feel to be playing with these guys?
Sick. We are really looking forward to seeing Dillinger tear up the stage (literally), for the last time in the UK I believe? So that's going to be something really special.

What can crowds expect from your set this year?
A shit load of riffs and energy.

Any bands across the festival you’ll be hoping to catch?
I want to try catch Clutch, Devil Driver, Slayer and In Flames on our day. We're actually getting there the day before (Saturday) to catch Every Time I Die and The Story So Far play too. Such a killer line up.

Have you got any tips to bands who one-day hope to follow in your footsteps and play Download Festival?
Just do you. There's too many people these days trying to do 'what works' and you can see right through it. So just do what you want, be real and have fun with it.

Sum up in three words what we can expect from your set at Download.
Big Fat Riffs

You can catch Blood Youth (@bloodyouthUK) tear up the Avalanche Stage on Sunday 11th June.
