2017 Top 10 Albums Of The Year | Phoebe Constable

10. Julien Baker - Turn Out The Lights

In all honesty I’ve still only been able to listen to this album from front to back a few times since it’s release. Julien Baker is one of the most emotional songwriters I’ve ever heard that I’m not even sure putting this album into words would do it justice - just listen to it.

9. Jamie Lenman - Devolver

Jamie Lenman is an artist I’ve got into very recently as listening to Devolver was the first taste I got of his music and I was completely intrigued with it, his songwriting is insanely good. I think there’s something for everyone on this album.

8. Paramore - After Laughter

All the upbeat instrumentals combined with the downbeat lyrics on After Laughter make it such an interesting listen. ‘Fake Happy’, ‘Caught in the Middle’ and ‘Rose-Colored Boy’ are three of my favourite songs of 2017. Admittedly when it was released I sat on the fence for a while but now it’s easily one of favourite Paramore records.

7. The Maine - Lovely Little Lonely

The Maine are one of those bands that seem to completely reinvent their sound with every record and they always manage to pull it off. Lovely Little Lonely is what I spent most of my summer listening to.

6. The Gospel Youth - Always Lose

The Gospel Youth are one of the most exciting bands in the UK pop-punk scene at the moment and Always Lose is a really solid debut.

5. PVRIS - All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell

When PVRIS released ‘What’s Wrong’ it had me hooked for their new record and they didn’t disappoint one bit. With the success of this album and the rate they’re going I’m sure they’ll be selling out arena’s in a matter of years.

4. Luke Rainsford - I Feel At Home With You

Luke is one of the best upcoming UK artists around, he puts on brilliant live performances and is one of the nicest people. I Feel At Home With You is an amazing record.

3. Counterparts - You’re Not You Anymore

This record is just 27 minutes of straight up fire. If you’re a fan of hardcore and haven’t checked out Counterparts yet this record is a great place to start.

2. Knuckle Puck - Shapeshifter

I didn’t think Knuckle Puck would be able to top Copacetic but Shapeshifter completely blew me away. ’Plastic Brains’ is one of my favourite album closers ever.

1. Deaf Havana - All These Countless Nights

Deaf Havana have been one of my favourite bands since Fools and Worthless Liars was released back in 2013. I personally think they’ve outdone themselves with All These Countless Nights. ‘Happiness’ and ‘Trigger’ are two of their best songs to date and as a consistent album it flows perfectly. The reworked edition that was released in October is also a great listen with a refreshing take on every song.

Honourable mentions:

Coast to Coast - The Length of a Smile (EP)

Holding Absence - Permanent & Dream Of Me (double single)

Citizen - As You Please

Grayscale - Adornment

Sleep On It - Overexposed

Movements - Feel Something
