Mark Hoppus & Alex Gaskarth form new group Simple Creatures, release first single 'Drug'

Seemingly out of nowhere comes an exciting new project from Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus & All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth. Releasing their first single “Drug” under the moniker Simple Creatures.

The track has all the signature notes one could expect, melding fuzz-enthused guitar with melodic pop-select “nanana” s undercut by a haymaker of a hook. However make no mistakes this first offering establishes the group squarely in new territory for Hoppus & Gaskarth. Utilising vibrant awakening synths and a more electronic approach to the production Simple Creatures treads further towards this trend of a more electronic influenced alt-rock.

Alex Gaskarth shared this about the track over his instagram: “In the studio it felt immediately like it was the song that best defined Simple Creatures: it’s gritty, grimy, rooted in the musicality we both came up on, but with a twist that takes it away from anything we’ve worked on before.”

With an EP promised in March fans should consider “Drug” the largely unannounced introduction to the group, with Hoppus saying “Drug is always the first song we play people when introducing them to Simple Creatures, so it only makes sense that it’s the first single.”
