Following on the previous announcement in November, Download Festival have announced the third wave of bands set to descend upon Castle Donington in July.
Joining the already colossal lineup that’s topped by Kiss, Iron Maiden and System Of A Down are Alter Bridge and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, with both bands confirmed to be playing massive slots on the main stage later this year. In relation to massive sets, Funeral For A Friend and Bowling For Soup have also been confirmed as Avalanche stage headliners.
On the subject of returning to Download Festival for the first time in five years, Ryan Richards of Funeral For A Friend says; “As a band, and as individuals – we’ve made some incredible memories at the hallowed grounds of Donington through the years, so it’s going to be nice to come back and make a few more together. Those trademark black fringes are a bit greyer/balder these days, but we’ll still be able to show these young ‘uns a thing or two!”
Also confirmed today are The Darkness, The Distillers, Mastodon, The Menzingers, Employed To Serve, Holding Absence, Milk Teeth, Loathe, Lacuna Coil and Sepultura. They will be joined by fellow newcomers Motionless In White, 3 Doors Down, Thy Art Is Murder, Will Haven, Wage War, Amaranthe, Cemetery Sun, Fire From The Gods, Gender Roles, Haken, Hatari, Heavy Lungs, Higher Power, Jj Wilde, Kill The Lights, Modern Error, Northlane, Polyphia, Press Club, Renounced, Shvpes, Sleep Token, Sullii, Tempt, The Glorious Sons, The Hara, The Raven Age, The Skints and Twin Temple.
In addition to today’s gargantuan announcement, Kerrang! Radio will once again be hosting the Finding Fresh Blood competition, with the winners getting the chance to perform on The Avalanche Stage at Download Festival 2020. 2019 was the inaugural year of the competition and saw the grime-punk Pengshui open the Avalanche Stage for the weekend.
