It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard from the lovable Bay Area math rock trio Covet. Thankfully however, the group have returned with a brand new jubilant single ‘Nero’, taken from their just announced sophomore release Technicolour.
Set to be released June 5th via Triple Crown Records, Covet's new record Technicolour is the succeeder to 2018’s Effloresce and is once again produced by collaborators Mike Watts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw) and Frank Mitaritonna (Yvette Young, Transit). Fronted by the math rock scenes esteemed Yvette Young, Covet’s second release is set to feature Young’s vocals on a select number of the tracks for the first time in the band’s history. In relation, the record will also highlight the group’s skill in intricate songwriting and gentle dynamics, a fact showcased by the just released ‘Nero’.
On the subject of the record Yvette Young states; “There are so many textures and types of songs that it’s a new direction for us, Some of them have a nostalgic feel. Others can be quite heavy. Technicolor traditionally is a technique used to colorize old film. In the same spirit, we’re taking these sounds and developing them. The word encapsulates what we set out to do.”
Continuing, bassist David Adamiak says; “The album features more colors in terms of not just the effects, but the songwriting and the rhythms. “When you compile everything together, it’s our most diverse body of work yet. “We’ve never had vocals with lyrics before. There were some vowels hummed on Currents, but it was gratifying to add Yvette’s voice like this.”
Technicolor is available to pre-order now with a number of exclusive pressings available via Triple Crown. Check out the gorgeous album artwork below!
