Bringing Sounds Of Festivals Home: Introducing Sub Cultures and New Single 'Alone'!

For reasons we don’t need to explain, festivals this summer are - unfortunately - a no-go. But Sub Cultures, fresh from from the South-West, will bring the festival to you with their summery brand of indie-punk. The band are spread throughout the Forest of Dean, South Wales, and Gloucester, but they haven’t let this distance stop them from making music.

Frontman Kane Radnor explained that their second single, ‘Alone’, was recorded “during Lockdown in the UK from separate places.” They enlisted the help of Alex McConnachie of Twin Stranger, to mix and master the single. Sub Cultures’ way of working and recording remotely proved great for them – they’ve produced a song filled with jangling guitars and good vibes. What’s more, they’ve written a catchy chorus, and Radnor’s vocal range is impressive; his voice flows from gently tender to brilliantly powerful.

Since October 2019, Sub Cultures have worked to hone their sound and are just starting to get their name out there. The band have already played shows up and down the UK, from Birmingham and Worcester to the more local Cheltenham and Gloucester. They’ve played at iconic small venues like the Frog and Fiddle and the Sunflower Lounge and even recorded a live studio session at Pyramid Studios in Reading.

Their eclectic sound is often compared to Title Fight and Pinegrove, but both ‘Alone’ and their debut single ‘Far Behind’ hint at other influences. Sub Cultures’ sound has a fun, light feel that’s a nod to everyone’s favourite pop-punk records.

While we can’t go to our favourite local venue to check out some new bands, it’s still important to discover new music to help keep the scene alive. Check out the band on Spotify, Facebook, Insta and check out the 'Alone' below!
