Even if you are a first time listener, there is no denying that Siamese are currently one of the most polished bands in the game. Whether live or on the record, the Danish rock/metal four piece have been making waves across the UK and Europe with a manic touring schedule, an eclectic collection of released material and some top drawer production to boot.
The fourth record from the eclectic collective Siamese, ‘Home’ is the latest in a hefty line of impressive full length releasese. Consisting of twelve immensely crafted tracks that instantly set the pace for where the band are currently sighting their aspirations, it’s clear from the starting line that Siamese are aiming high – and taking no prisoners in the process.
The record’s opener ‘Heights Above’ is an incredible kick of high octane screams and a soaring chorus, presenting with the same level of energy that the band brought to the table at Burn It Down Festival earlier this year. There is a distinct weight to the guitar tones across the entire album that could almost be described as crushing, but this is tastefully counterbalanced by a crisp clean vocal style that is intermittent throughout. The album’s title track accurately represents the remainder of the record still to come. Featuring some brutal guest vocals from Drew York (Stray From The Path) this particular number twists and evolves throughout, leaving the listener never quite sure where it will end up. Another stellar example of some brilliant guest vocals comes in with the record’s seventh track ‘Enough Ain’t Enough’. Consisting of pulsing synths that lay a bed for the velvety undertones of Rory Rodriguez (Dayseeker), it’s one of the least heavy tracks on the album, allowing some accurately placed breathing room before the intensity of its follow up ‘Numb’.
The entire record showcases the band’s outlook on that exact point in their collective lifetime. Whilst it joins the ranks of countless albums written over the course of a global crisis Home puts a fresh spin on a way of life that is slowly growing stale. The coronavirus pandemic has been an ongoing scourge that has impacted every life in some way across the entire planet. Siamese have taken all of the negative energy brought in by this condition, fused it with their own misgivings, and projected that frustration full force into the record.
There is no doubt that Siamese have delivered a well packaged end result, with Home coming together as an enjoyable listening experience from start to finish. In some ways it would have been nice to see the band be a little more adventurous with their writing style, however from a fanbase perspective it is evident that the band have found a medium that works for them and are comfortable in their delivery – and even more satisfied with its reception from a hungry global fanbase. Each riff on the album is bigger than the last, and the entire thing is packaged to represent that stadium sized energy that the band truly deserve.
