Less than a year after their self titled November release the Bristol trio are set to drop another ambitious bombshell. Putting their own writing ability to the test during a time when the industry is most under pressure, Superlove have come together once again with a sonic blast of intensity, both fraught and delicate in unison.
Scheduled for release on June 18th via Rude Records ‘…but for the moment’ is bound to be an interesting listen for an encompassing fanbase, and even now a few years into their career the band are still persistent with finding ways to come out of nowhere with the shock of your life. An articulate fusion of eccentric uplifting pop alongside a dominant heavier influence, tracks such as the record’s lead single ‘btw! I adore you’ pinpoint perfectly the bands stance across an already diverse discography. A symphony of both cinematic synth lines & heavily processed vocal effects and a gargantuan riff machine that should sit at completely opposite ends of the spectrum – yet seemingly balance together as one seamless composition.

This latest instalment from the band is an assorted project with a multitude of influences in the mix – almost as if it’s divided between two completely different spaces. There is definitive suspicion that ‘…but for the moment’ could be like marmite to the uninitiated, but if you’re a Superlove fan with at least one EP’s worth of experience, then their abnormality is likely what’s brought you here. If anything is certain, its that this record is a permanent stamp of the band’s refusal to be pigeon holed. Track number four ‘Not Me! Not You!’ is reminiscent of those infamous festival season bangers, bringing an overwhelming clamouring for a packed beer tent where you hand over your five hard earned pounds in exchange for a single can of red stripe willingly. Punk infused guitar tones and a rarely seen harsh element to the vocals make their bid for the top spot in the bands catalogue, and a driving force from the rhythm section keeps the track buoyant for its entire lifecycle.

Whilst the band have openly explained that this new body of work is intended to have a purposeful DIY tone to the recording, ‘…but for a moment’ stays true to its roots whilst still aspiring to a crisp level of production throughout, and a new record could not have come at a better time. With the days getting warmer and music more prominent than ever, a jam packed touring schedule from the band in the coming months could be that silver lining for anyone desperate to get back to live music and let loose in a sweaty venue.
