Elessar – Is This All We Are | EP Review

Elessar are back with a new 5 track EP; Is This All We Are. Produced by Matt O’Grady, who has previously worked with You Me At Six, Deaf Havana & Don Broco, the EP is the bands dice throw at becoming a bigger entity, with this being the bands sophomore release – Elessar are looking to tear down the walls to success. It quickly becomes evident they have a focus on their live presence, with each track holding hook shaken, sing along choruses that all add to the vibrant energy that surrounds the band. The record serves the dual purpose of acting as an audition to touring bands adding them as first support to larger shows and will also feel equally at home in smaller intimate venues as the headline act. Newest single ‘In All Honesty’ covers the sorrow you get when leaving a turbulent relationship you know just isn’t right but can’t stop anyway. The realisation that people come and go in your life, but tattoos etched on your skin are there to stay, and everybody makes mistakes. Besides lyrical potency, the track showcases the bands talents well with its passion lead vocal strikes. With each track landing around the 4 minute mark, Elessar manage to fit all their characteristics into each song, with no efforts seeming over-done or under-appreciated. The bands thick rhythmic guitar sound when paired with the tight drumming of Dan James adds emphatic layers of well crafted rock; particularly in “Saudade” which looks to be a nailed on live set closer for the band with its climactic crescendo’s Is This All We Are is a solid showing by a young band who seemingly have a heap of potential sitting at their feet waiting to be taken advantage of, the future seems bright for Elessar, and with the right amount of experience, we could be looking at future superstars here.

Score: 7/10
