Escuela Grind, Kid Kapichi, THEBIGHELL and More: New Noizze – The 8 Must-Listen Tracks of the Week

For the final time this year, here are the best tracks of last week.

Escuela Grind – Meat Magnet (Feat. Barney Greenway)

The year may be winding down and the vast majority of us may be receding into our comfiest clothes for the reminder of this month, but Escuela Grind are here to keep the energy up. Taken from their upcoming EP DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL – the consecutive follow up to previous extended plays PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE and GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE respectively – ‘Meat Magnet’ is three minutes of unfiltered and unfettered death metal. Void of pretence and featuring vocals from bonafide grind pioneer Barney Greenway of Napalm Death, the track highlight’s Escuela Grind’s ability to harness the abrasive and unrelenting nature of classic extreme metal in a way that’s progressive and urgent. – Dan Hillier

THEBIGHELL – BASTARDEYES

Like your rock n roll heavy as fuck? Like noise? Like riffs? Don’t like your music serious? The debut single from Wolverhampton trio THEBIGHELL is for you. Former God Damn lead protagonist Thom Edward is joined by fellow racket makers Mike Williams (bass) and Tommy (drums) to blow out a few ear drums. Described by Thom as “Crap Weezer, pterodactyl screams, crap dads” we should not expect anything polished or nice from them in the coming months, but some people prefer to be naughty rather than nice at Christmas right? – Adam Vallely

Skeletal Remains – Relentless Appetite

It’s Christmas time, and what better time is there than to turn the heating off and generate warmth by ceaselessly headbanging in the living room, ‘Relentless Appetite’ provides the foundations for such festive activities, and does so with the gusto of 10 death metal bands. Out of this teething miasmic pile of death metal, Skeletal Remains emerge. Relentless Appetite does what it says on the tin. It’s relentless from the very get go, the riffs come thick and fast, speeding through those audio cavities like an Ork battlewagon painted red. At least there’s a half time section that provides the same kind of respite that might be afforded someone who’s torturer is taking a smoke break. (Santa) hats off to the folks in Skeletal Remains, this is a banger. – Rob Bown

Kid Kapichi – 999

The third slice to be lifted from the power punk’s forthcoming LP There Goes The Neighbourhood – released March 15th via Spinefarm – ‘999’ is a ripe tomato to the face of our institutionally rotten police system. Vehemently decrying the racism, misogyny, violence, corruption and bigotry ingrained within the foundation of the national constabulary with authentic rage aplomb, ‘999’ is a volatile cocktail of confrontational modern punk that bares witness to Kid Kapichi’s inherent urgency as a collective. – Dan Hillier

Enterprise Earth – Casket of Rust

Enterprise Earth have done it again with ‘Casket of Rust’; a 7 minute rollercoaster full of absolutely crushing percussion. Breakdowns and blast beats thrown left and right while strings shred through each verse with amazing solos and catchy riffs. A bass line is provided halfway through that will cause anyone to shake their butts to. An obscene vocal performance including blood curdling fry screams, booming gutturals, and an absolutely beautiful chorus is on full display proving Enterprise Earth are willing to push the barriers and experiment with new sounds. Amazing production was also provided by the groups own Gabe Mangold. This new single is a prime example of the hard work these guys are putting out on their newest release and deathcore fans would be silly to sleep on it. – Nathaniel Maure

Brand of Sacrifice – Purge

Toronto, Canada’s own Brand of Sacrifice are no strangers when it comes to releasing amazing music. Setting the bar higher and higher for Canadian Deathcore, ‘Purge’ is no different. Carrying the track is an ominous synth backed by some absolutely crushing yet melodic instrumentation. Vocalist Kyle Anderson provides the perfect vocal display making this song even heavier by default. With one of the better voices in deathcore right now, that’s no surprise. Closing out the last minute of the track is a bone crushing breakdown capable of causing anyone to make that stink face of approval. The perfect way to close a track out. Recently signing to Nuclear Blast Records, ‘Purge’ is the best way to introduce this new partnership. It’s also the perfect example of what to expect from a new Brand of Sacrifice record and we are all for it. – Nathaniel Maure

Deadlite – Vicious Nature

Toronto’s metalcore scene continues to pour out banger after banger this year. ‘Vicious Nature’ by Deadlite is the newest example of this. Full of nostalgic metalcore vibes from start to finish, ‘Vicious Nature’ almost feels like an early Like Moths To Flames track right out of the gates. Catchy riffs pour out from start to finish; percussion and vocals add to the mix perfectly with ease. A raw production style gives this track an underlying gritty tone that brings the song full circle, making it feel like you’re back in 2009 all over again. Deadlite are crushing it and ‘Vicious Nature’ is only the beginning. If you miss the emo, metalcore days then Deadlite has just what you need in this new single. – Nathaniel Maure

Morta Skuld – We Rise We Fall

US Death Metal veterans, Morta Skuld show no signs of letting up on the heaviness as they return with a big brutal bashing unleashing their new track, ‘We Rise We Fall’. Full of stonking riffs, violent drums and lyrical savagery, ‘We Rise We Fall’ is exactly what you expect from a band with three decades worth of exceptional releases and keeps well within the phenomenal standard of Death Metal mastery witnessed in 2023. With 2024 is shaping up to be another excellent year for Death Metal, their next album, Creation Undone is set to be a highlight when it’s released in February. – Amy Bowles
