Thornhill – BODIES | Album Review

After swaying into something some might dub sexycore on their previous album, the brand new album from Aussie staples Thornhill marks yet another sultry sound evolution into their ever growing segue from being a band that had riffs on The Dark Pool to pure rizz on BODIES.

Thornhill have been cementing themselves as a band in the wider alternative scene for the best part of a decade. EPs 13, Butterfly and their debut album The Dark Pool proved themselves to be forced to be reckoned with, with their superhero levels of power behind their riffs and their introspective storytelling marking chapters in a promising career in metalcore.

However no two chapters should be the same, but an expansion on a style and a continuation of a theme. In 2025 Thornhill’s brand new album BODIES perhaps commences their biggest and boldest chapter in their story so far. Whilst predecessor HEROINE was defined by its tightly woven concept set in the glitz and the glamour of Hollywood, BODIES is an album that thrives on youthful spontaneity, sensuality and pure and unfiltered sexy vibes dialled up to the max that HEROINE only dared to flaunt ever so slightly.

The chunky, opening ‘Diesel’ opens up the club’s dance floor meets mosh pit vibes that ultimately this album achieves to the most stylish of standards. Its crushingly distinctive guitar tones make for one of the most memorable riffs on BODIES, alongside that of follow up ‘Revolver’ and ‘CRUSH’, tracks that at least get you hot and bothered under the collar due to their inherently sultry nature.

Singles such as ‘Silver Swarm’ transport us to the nightclub filled floors of Australia, where Gen Zers dance the night away into the early hours of the morning without a care in the world, partying the night away whilst they are still young. Perhaps it’s that same sentiment that could be transcended throughout the entirety of the mentality going into making BODIES for Thornhill. It’s capturing the essence of their youth whilst they’ve still got it, and being in the position they are in the scene to be able to sway with that with the rise of the so called sexycore genre being the hottest trend amongst their audience right now.

The same could be said for earlier single ‘nerv’ and latter single ‘TONGUES’. Songs formulated and designed with such sophisticated swagger that not only would have the likes of Sleep Token and Deftones sweating under the scorching intense heat of vocalist Jacob Charlton’s alluring vocal style, singing lines such as “silver tongue killer” have us hooked, but the sonic standards of their sound that is designed to be seen on the catwalk of fashion weeks globally.

The attitude, charisma and style that has gone into making BODIES, ultimately makes you feel confident, sexy and flamboyant and like you have every right when this album is dripping in your ears to treat the pavements like your runway, to strut your stuff and feel like the sexiest version of yourself. BODIES is an album brimming with sensuality, romance of the flirtiest degree and the irreplaceable feeling to make you feel like the most badass person on the planet.
